While Rome Burns is pleased to be supporting a wonderful organization with a great music lineup this month featuring The Claes Almroth Trio and Van Riper. As always, 100% of the money we raise goes to our cause-du-jour. This time out it will be 4th Quarter Farm, a wonderful start-up focused on bringing a little joy into the lives of folks experiencing difficulties, especially health and age related.

The purpose of 4th Quarter Farm here in West Linn, Oregon is to grow and deliver fresh, local, old-fashioned flowers to seniors in assisted living, caregivers and those who are homebound.
Over 30 varieties of flowers are grown with environmental conscience and are arranged and delivered to people who are most in need of thoughtfulness in the form of colorful flowers to brighten their day.
The Music
The Claes Almroth Trio brings an eclectic repertoire and a decidedly non-mainstream sense of humor to any musical happening. The band has more than a decade in the trenches of the PDX music scene, mining for gold in the dusty archives of what is most easily described as Americana. At any given show you’d be likely to hear music from Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Sonny Boys I and II, Ray Charles, JJ Cale, Memphis Slim, the Stones, Howlin’ Wolf, and Willie Nelson.
Van Riper began at least 10 years ago when asked by PPS Speech-Language Pathology department to perform at a Holiday function. They named our band after Charles Van Riper, one of the father’s of the profession. Each year they were invited back and began to develop a “sound”. Most members of this all-SLP group have other bands & music projects but they always make time to sing & play together for the pure joy of it. While gigging in public is fairly new for Van Riper, they’re delighted to have the chance to join us in supporting 4th Quarter Farm. Mandolin, ukulele, guitar, drums, percussion and old-time harmonies shine as they cover Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Loudon Wainwright, John Hartford, Bob Dylan, and Woody Guthrie to name a few. Band members include Craig Dermer, Sarah Stratton, Tristan Trotter, Greg Unwin, and Kathy Ware.
